Daily Blog 2

Yesterday on April 3rd, I had an interesting conversation with Kumu Kawika. I wanted to ask him about his thoughts on what could be change to better Kamehameha Schools, particularly the high school campus. He told me some very interesting ideas on what he thought needed to be changed. I think that last year he was a part of the group of people that had the idea to make blue benches and put them in the Konia hallway to decrease the crowd that there is particularly in the morning and during lunch periods. I remember him walking through the halls last year and reminding students to keep their feet off of the benches. I liked that they came up with that idea because it really helped to lessen the build up that there was in the morning and instead of having to sit on the dirty ground, students were able to sit on a comfortable bench. This year Kumu Kawika had new ideas to better the campus. He thought that it would be a good idea to have some type of curtain or drape to cover the openings of first floor Konia. It would help to keep the sun out of the eyes of the students who sit on the benches and it would also keep the rain off of the benches so it will allow the students to sit even if it is raining. However, there is a problem because some students like to be able to see what is going on on Konia field and see the people passing by and be able to talk to them. Figuring out a way to still be able to see people on the field and have a covering for protection may be a challenge in doing this idea. Overall, Kumu Kawika was very helpful in giving ideas and suggestions to help us further our project.
